Order Books

I was a Sussex police officer for thirty years initially working as a PC in Bognor Regis and Gatwick Airport where I was both a firearms and plain clothes officer. In 1989 I achieved my dream by being posted to Brighton. I become a detective the following year. Quite uniquely I served the city through every rank, rising to become a homicide senior investigating officer and Detective Superintendent for Public Protection as well as a strategic firearms and public order commander. I then achieved my life's ambition, as Chief Superintendent, to become the city's Police Commander, a job I held and loved for four years. I was extremely proud of everything I did in that job and worked with some of the most talented and courageous officers that anyone could have the pleasure to meet. As well as running the operational policing of what can only be described as one of the UK’s most challenging and cosmopolitan cities, there were some aspects I was particularly proud of. I pioneered Operation Reduction, the enduring approach to slashing drugs deaths and reducing crime. I also cut disorder at protests by adopting methods developed by Professor Clifford Stott one of the world's foremost crowd psychologists.

I have now left the police and divide my time between writing and supporting other writers with running a management consultancy which specializes in safeguarding children and adults.

I live in Sussex with my wife Julie and, when they are not at university, my triplet children Conall, Niamh and Deaglan.

I am an avid reader (no surprise there then!), love walking on the South Downs with our mad terrier Murphy and watching non league

football – mainly because Conall is a referee and I am his unpaid taxi driver!
