Brian had a thirty-year policing career which began in Strathclyde Police and finished in the rank of superintendent in Police Scotland. In that time he enjoyed a wide variety of roles including operational policing, plain clothes, firearms, public order, specialist search team training, licensed negotiator, professional standards – investigating the alleged criminality of police officers -, senior operational command and critical incident leadership.
He began his extensive operational background in the late eighties in the most deprived communities of Glasgow. He has first hand experience of policing in areas synonymous with high levels of crime including violence, drugs, and serious organised crime groups. He has survived three attempts on his life and received a Chief Constable’s High Commendation for bravery.
Brian witnessed profound changes over his thirty years which he now weaves into his own writing, and has recently finished his first novel, ‘The Corsairs’. He has a MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice presented by the joint Law Schools of Glasgow & Strathclyde Universities and has recently completed the University of Glasgow’s MLitt (Creative Writing) programme where he graduated with Distinction.
