Matt is a CWA Dagger nominated crime novelist and was voted No.22 in the WH Smith reader poll of the world’s best ever crime writers. He began writing as therapy for PTSD
Previously an army officer, he then served 21 years in the Metropolitan Police in the 1980s and 1990s). Over those years he worked in uniform, crime squad, CID, traffic, dog section and was a Hostage and Crisis negotiator. His areas of experience include operational policing, criminal investigation pre-PACE, working with Military Special Forces, the Security Service and Royal Military Police.
Matt is an expert on police dialogue – how cop’s think and speak. Creating characters who act and sound like the real thing is a vital part of injecting authenticity into a novel and, as Graham will tell you, there are always two ways of doing ‘the job’. The right way and the Met way. The Met way gets things done! As a traditionally published novelist, he understands how to achieve the important balance between reality and an entertaining narrative.
