Bruce was a Tactical Firearms Commander for over 15 years leading the response to the whole range of firearms incidents throughout his career. He has led operations against the most significant criminals through to routine deployments. During this time he has seen how armed policing has changed and adapted to the changing threats. Following his operational retirement Bruce is now a trainer and course leader delivering national level firearms command training and post incident manager training. He also supports all aspects of operational command training for officers of all ranks and roles
Bruce has been involved in policing since 1985 when he joined the police in London. He has served abroad as an officer with Royal Hong Kong Police. His operational career was focussed on uniformed roles in Public Order and Firearms although he also worked in counter corruption.
