CLINICAL FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGIST
Dr Emma Donnelly works as a Senior Clinical Forensic Psychologist in Dublin. In two decades of clinical and academic practice, she has worked predominantly with victims and perpetrators of crime. Emma has lectured in colleges and universities in Ireland and England and as a guest lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York.
Emma’s work in prisons in Ireland and the UK has seen her specialise in the assessment of sexual offenders, violent offenders, and killers as well as working with prolific and problematic offenders. Her areas of expertise include risk assessment of violence including homicide, sexual violence, child abuse, complex trauma, personality disorders, and psychopathy. She also has experience of working with acquired brain injury, major mental health disorders, anxiety, depression, suicidality, and self-injurious behaviours.
Emma has worked with children and young people who have experienced trauma, some of whom have engaged in high risk behaviours, are victims and/or perpetrators of violent and sexual offences, and are engaged in diverse criminal behaviours. Emma provides consultation to An Garda Síochána, the Child & Family Agency, and the Health Service Executive (HSE) as well as best-selling authors and writers. Emma is a trained forensic interviewer and assesses credibility of child sexual abuse allegations.
Emma previously worked in the radio and film industries having achieved her primary degree in media production. She is an avid reader as well as an emerging author whose crime fiction is somewhat influenced by her experiences working within the criminal justice field.
