FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGY AND ARCHAEOLOGY
Dr Julie Roberts BA (hons), MSc, PhD, ChFA, FRIA, MCIfA is a Chartered Forensic Anthropologist and a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland (RAI). She is also a forensic archaeologist accredited by the Chartered Institute for Archaeology at the most senior level (MCIfA). She has over 25 years of UK and international practitioner experience in the excavation and identification of human remains from scenes of crime, war zones, and mass fatality incidents.
Julie is currently employed by Alecto Forensic Services as their scientific advisor and senior practitioner in forensic anthropology and archaeology, and by Liverpool John Moores University as a senior lecturer in forensic anthropology. Her research interests are focussed on improving positive identification rates in Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) operations, and developing multidisciplinary approaches to identifying under-represented population groups such as victims of war crimes and deceased migrants.
Julie represents UK Forensic Anthropologists and Archaeologists within the Interpol DVI Pathology and Anthropology Sub-Working Group, and she is the national forensic anthropology and archaeology coordinator for UK DVI. She is current Chair of the British Association for Forensic Anthropology (BAFA) and she is registered as an Expert Advisor in forensic anthropology and archaeology with the National Crime Agency. Julie is also qualified and experienced in osteoarchaeology, funerary archaeology and palaeopathology, and she has a particular interest in UK prehistoric and medieval communities.
