Jon Pettigrew has spent over 5 years researching widely and writing about British 19th century crime, policing and the judicial system.

The Victorian era, 1837-1902, was a time of No CSI. Police methods and procedures were primitive but developed over time. Police forces changed substantially in the Victorian era, notably in London – the Capital of the Empire on which the sun never set.

Jon has read court reports, police archive material and 19th century newspaper articles, then dramatises true-life crime cases to show how they were brought to justice. He also created fictionalised cases based on a long-serving, early Metropolitan Police detective- branch Inspector, famous in his era but not now, who in retirement became an early private detective and enquiry agent, with an office close to Scotland Yard.

His research approach and understanding across police procedure, linked to court systems and punishment would be of benefit to those interested to write fiction or non-fiction about crime & punishment in the Victorian Era.
